Activator Methods Chiropractic Technique
Neuromuscular Re-education

To help you understand the value of these techniques, read the following:

Low Force... Very Specific... Safe for ALL Ages!
Activator is a full spine adjusting technique. To address spinal joint dysfunction, we use an instrument called the Activator. This unique hand-held instrument was scientifically designed to give you a very specific, "low force" adjustment.  Technically, it is a mechanical force, manually assisted, short-lever chiropractic adjustment.
The Activator instrument delivers a controlled, light, and fast thrust, without causing undue strain to patients.

Activator adjustments are so quick and controlled, your body's muscles are less likely to resist, allowing for a more precise and exact adjustment.

The Activator Method and the associated Activator Adjusting Instrument represent the only instrument adjusting technique with clinical trials to support their efficacy.

Activator Methods International (AMI) has published clinical and scientific peer-reviewed papers beyond that of most chiropractic analytical treatment procedures. AMI’s mechanical force, manually-assisted adjusting instrument is recognized and covered by Medicare. The number of licensed professionals trained in the Activator Method is approximately 150,000 worldwide, making it the most widely used low-force chiropractic technique in the world.

AMI has published more than 105 abstracts and manuscripts on the Activator Method with the support of the National Institute of Chiropractic Research. Additional research efforts have been funded by the National Institutes of Health. The resulting abstracts and manuscripts have been a valuable tool to support the chiropractic doctor’s treatment of problems of the spine.

Neuromuscular Re-education is a hands-on approach to the evaluation and structural/functional treatment of the ADHESIONS that occur in muscles, connective tissue, fascia, and tendons, wherever damage & inflammation have occurred. These adhesions can permanently limit both strength and range of motion, and can lead to chronic pain.  Neuromuscular Re-education helps to release these.

How could these Adhesions occur?  It can happen to most athletes, who do the same motion over and over again.  Imagine a baseball player - he throws the baseball the same way again & again.  Or think of someone sitting in front of a computer all day, holding their shoulders and arm in the same position for hours at a time.  In these repetitive motions, some of the muscle fibers can get stuck together - this is the Adhesion.  Now, all muscle fibers are supposed to be able to STRETCH OUT and CONTRACT.  But, where the Adhesion is, that part of the muscle will NOT stretch fully - so you may notice a decrease in the normal Range of Motion of the joint.  Plus, when you try to stretch it, you're pulling against the adhesion, causing chronic PAIN.  Now, when your body says to CONTRACT that muscle, because of the adhesion, not all the fibers will contract 100%.  This can cause loss of strength, and more importantly it may not SUPPORT the joint the way it is supposed to do.  And, when the body detects that a muscle is WEAK, it will automatically contract some surrounding muscles to help do the job.  Since the surrounding muscles often pull in DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS than the weak muscle, this can cause even worse consequences:  unintended  twisting of the ankle, or knee, or hip (whatever joint is involved...)  This can have far-reaching effects:  chronic abnormal twisting of the ankle will lead to Ankle pain, but also Knee pain, then to Hip pain, then Back pain...

Neuromuscular Re-education is the art of using your hands to FIND these Adhesions, then to manually release them.  If we can find what is CAUSING your pain, then we can very often release it.  The results can be quite remarkable.  We have seen some exciting results in people with chronic problems in KNEES, SHOULDERS, HIPS, ANKLES/FEET, WRISTS/HANDS, NECKS, LOW BACKS, HEADACHES & MIGRAINES, even TMJ JOINTS!
